About Fahari

Fahari means "royal" in Swahili. If you're having trouble pronouncing it, just remember that it rhymes with "safari" another Swahili word.

Values

  • Awareness of a special burden to help those in society who are most vulnerable.
  • Belief in the inherent dignity of all people.
  • Commitment that the people best able to determine their needs are those from the community.
  • Belief in global gospel partnerships to meet needs, share resources, learn from one another, and grow together.

Vision

To provide physical and spiritual assistnace to families struggling with HIV/AIDS in impoverished areas of Nairobi, Kenya.

Action

We are a small Christian organization based in the U.S. and Nairobi.

Our efforts at Fahari are currently focused on Trinity AIDS. Trinity AIDS was founded in 2004 as one church's response to the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS. Most Kenyan churches do not have any outreach to people living with HIV/AIDS. In fact, many Kenyan pastors will not talk about HIV/AIDS from the pulpit or even in private. Stanlas and Judy have been willing to address this scourge head on.  Fahari is now incorporated as an NGO in Kenya and as a D.B.A. in the U.S.

In Kenya, about 7% of adults have HIV/AIDS. In the slums of Nairobi, this number is thought to be much higher. Some suggest it could be up to 50%. In its wake it leaves women and children more vulnerable than they once were. For a story of how one woman was infected and its impact on her life, read Hannah's Story.

History

Trinity AIDS was co-founded in 2004 by Holy Trinity Church-Chicago Plan member Lindsay Stortz and Judith Musyokiwife of Pastor Stanlas Ndambuki Musyoki. Trinity AIDS provides spiritual and social support, fellowship, education, and when possible material assistance to AIDS-affected families in the slums of Nairobi. Holy Trinity Church has been supporting this ministry through prayer, missions trips, technical assistance, fundraisers such as Heart for AIDS, and initiatives of HTC-Project CURE.

If you'd like to help, you can donate, volunteer, and pray.
